With reference to your telegram No.80 of 28th August, 1934, and to subsequent correspondence regarding the appointment 34 in Hong Kong of an Economic Commission, I have the honour to inform you that I am at present considering the final report

which the Commissioners have now submitted and that it will be

forwarded to you in due course.

2. The duties of Secretary to the Commission were 22426 R. entrusted to Mr. B. C. K. Hawkins, Cadet Officer, in addition

to his normal work as an Assistant in the Secretariat and were

discharged by him in a manner which earned high commendation from the Chairman a copy of whose minute on the subject is enclosed. I agree that these services merit tangible recognition and I propose, subject to your concurrence, to grant Mr. Hawkins a bonus of $1,000. if you approve I shall be glad if the Crown Agents may be instructed to pay the sterling equivalent of this sum to Mr. Hawkins who has now proceeded on leave.
